Author Karen Essex's is Joanne's guest for the September @ Your Library show.  Karen's newest book, Stealing Athena, is the fictionalized story of Mary Nisbet, Lady Elgin, who was married to the man who took the Parthenon's sculptural treasures from Greece to England during the Napoleonic Wars.  Mary, a independent, wealthy Scottish heiress, was the one who financed the controversial rescue of the Elgin Marbles.  Essex alternates Mary's story with one two centuries earlier, the life of Aspasia, the companion to Perikles whose vision built the Parthenon.  Rich in detail and character, Stealing Athena is an engrossing historical novel!
