Focus on Conservation
October 6 through November 5, 2008 Reception: October 10
Photographs taken while enjoying an April day in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve are represented in the inaugural McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Focus on Conservation Photo Contest.
Since its founding in 1990, the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy has championed the need for, establishment of, and safe public access to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. MSC works side-by-side with the City of Scottsdale to ensure completion, management and public appreciation of the Preserve; continuously educates residents and visitors about the Preserve's environmental and archaeological significance; ensures the public has appropriate access to the land they have repeatedly voted to protect; and facilitates continuity of the Preserve vision in the ever-changing political environment.
Together with thousands of community partners and voters, the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy envisions a 36,000 acre (57 square mile) Preserve that, when complete, will protect nearly one third of the 185-square-mile City of Scottsdale as natural, public open space.
